Writing for the media

People get their news through forms of media such as television, newspapers and the Web. The journalists at these media outlets have different writing styles they have to use. Writers and editors working for newspapers, television stations and radio stations have to conform to Associated Press style. There are certain rules that AP style users are required to follow, such as spelling out the numbers one through nine, using numeric figures for numbers 10 and above, and using the word "an" in front of words that sound like they begin with a vowel ("It's an honor"). Knowing this writing style is important in the journalism world.
